What is a journal?

A journal (also: scholarly journal or academic journal) is a periodical that is published at regular intervals (at least once a year) and usually contains articles, reviews, and research reports on a particular subject area. Journals are published as print journals or eJournals, or both.

Each issue of a journal contains several articles (normally between 2 and 10) by different authors. Many journals are peer-reviewed.

The library subscribes to a number of journals: in some cases, we have access to all published issues; in others, only a certain date range is available. You can search for journals in the Library Catalogue (for print journals) or in the A-Z Journals list (for electronic journals). If you are interested in an article that the library does not provide access to, you can request it as an Inter Library Loan.
